Girl Inside the Lines: Big Red Head 100 This is the first portrait I made after an interesting process discovery. I found that I could define my incised lines by keeping the patina solutions slightly away from them and letting the bare bronze show through. Her title has grown on me over the last few months. Initially it was reference to my new patina approach, but since I have had time to consider her, I see more layers. At first I thought of a dutiful, obedient girl who learned to "stay within the lines" of life's coloring book. This interpretation gave way to a sense of someone quiet, wise and introspective. Today I like the idea that she may be a spy: a girl inside the lines of some country dangerous and far away who is quite fearless in the moment. |
